Since I am keeping an eye on any news for the World of Darkness MMO, I thought I'd make a thread for news (or rumors).
The first is a somewhat old announcement from the beginning of August.
It's from Shane Defreest the Community Developer CCP/White Wolf. The time frame, from what I remember from another site is for The Grand Masquerade later this month.
Here's to hoping part of that news is at least about the MMO.
This is a video from CCP using Nvidia's Apex. Speculation is this is possibly for World of Darkness. Regardless, that's the best looking clothing effects I've seen.

I can't remember where I read it but I know a legitimate source confirmed that it would, lore and story wise, focus on the currently published books. That seems obvious enough, but it's still a little disappointing to oWoD fans. I guess that means all of us fae should put the 90's behind us and start reading Changeling the Lost. I still haven't been able to find anything concrete on what types of supernaturals (if any?) will be available for playing though. Indeed there could be a whole MMO just on the coregame with only humans. I would guess we'd have werewolves, vamps, fae, mages, prometheans, and geists. Keeping my fingers crossed anyway!

I hope they try to include as much as they can. I don't have a clue how they're going to pull it all off so that alone should be interesting to see. I would be worried about imbalances more than anything.

Luckily from what I've read in the new set the series are all relatively well balanced with each other and each game fits more harmoniously than oWoD. And there are no contradictions between books yet, but then again theres fewer expansions and rules. I think it would be a good idea for them to launch coregame then possibly release expansions and sequels every year to add to the world of darkness like they've done for tabletop. like maybe first add Vampire: The Requiem, then Changeling: The Lost and so on. I wonder if you'll need to start out as a human character anyway before you can become embraced or changed etc.

That's what I was wondering. If we'll have to start out as human and then choose a path later or something. Or how they will handle that. I think that would be more in depth than just creating a vampire or something. I doubt that's the way it will go though.

I would hope they will chose the more interesting concept of starting human, ad following a path.
The concept clothing looks good.

When I saw the apex thing, my first thought was that I seriously need to save up money for a new computer.

If its any help, my computer overheated just as I tried to see the whole clothing thing...
A sign perhaps...

At the rate information is coming out for the game, I think I'll have saved more than enough to get an i7 before it ever comes out.

Depending on how much they have actually done... (since no one seems to know), I would vote a late 2011 or flat out some time in 2012 BETA. Unless they've done enough to start doing closed beta which is usually doubtful by the time of announcement. However, I don't know a lot about CCP so that's up in the air.

I think it would be better if they had everyone start out human and then choose a path after character creation. Would give the character more RP depth.

I think it would also help with the influx of one type of character over another. That way you get a feel for the game and then from there whatever happens, happens. I wouldn't mind playing just a human immersed in it.

This is a lengthy article about the economy and such. So I just pulled out the part that relates to WoD. It's not informative about the game per se. ___________________________ Meanwhile, the scene is dark over at CCP’s Stone Mountain operation, but not because of the economy.
In CCP’s quirky offices, employees who occasionally sport dyed hair, tattoos or flamboyant mustaches toil at their computers in dimly lit rooms. Their cubicles have tall, Gothic partitions of fake brick, wrought iron and street lamps reminiscent of Jack the Ripper’s London.
Technically, the employees that have been rapidly filling those cubicles create few products that would show up in government tallies of exports.
But the well-paid software engineers and digital artists are generating reams of computer code and data that translate into digital vampires and spaceships. They’re then zapping them to CCP’s other development centers in Iceland, China and England to create online role-playing games worth tens of millions of dollars in annual revenue.
“The teams here export, in a sense, a lot of creative aspects,” said Mike Tinney, president of CCP’s U.S. operation.
Since CCP bought Stone Mountain-based White Wolf Publishing in 2006, the operation has grown from about 25 employees to 180 — CCP’s second-largest studio.
Tinney said one local team is developing an online role-playing game based on White Wolf’s “World of Darkness” books and card games, which feature vampires, werewolves and other scary creatures.
Another group upstairs is working on upgrades of CCP’s flagship game, called EVE Online. The so-called “massively multi-player” online game generates roughly $65 million a year for Reykjavik-based CCP, from more than 300,000 players in North America, Europe and Asia who pay about $15 a month to assume roles as spaceship pilots, miners, pirates, warriors and other interstellar denizens.
CCP hopes to make even more money from its still-unfinished game based on “World of Darkness.”
The privately held company isn’t saying how long it could take to finish it, but it doesn’t seem to be worried by economic concerns in this world, such as the recent recession that precipitated a near-meltdown in Iceland.
