The smell of the ocean could not ease the flipping of her stomach; her hand grasped the rail of the ship. Standing there she did not hear him coming up behind her his armor creaking from the salt of the sea drying it out he wrapped his arms around her. Leaning against him she relaxed in the comfort of his strength, she could see the shoreline in the close distance. The lushness of her homeland now more visible in the late spring day, the sun just rising from the east, even in the early hours of the day plums of smoke wafted from chimneys like a friendly greeting. She felt his arms tighten around her, his eyes scanning the island in front of them. Crossing the veil into her homelands had been a small surprise, they had sailed straight toward the cliffs, raising her hand and silently saying a prayer in an unfamiliar tongue caused the worlds to split. They had crossed over she felt Thom’s arms tense around her holding her close, she worried he would feel the affects of the barrier change. But the wards allowed him to pass, she had not told him there would have been a small chance he would have been rejected and thrown back to land. They had passed through safely, now came the biggest challenge, the acceptance by the children.
Soon they docked and were greeted by soldiers, council members, and the women of Shallow Moon. They all waited upon one knee, their Queen was home, and they rejoiced. They looked to Thom in his dark armor helping their Queen from the ship. The crowd parted and the happy giggles of children could be heard, they came running at Aph full blast. Taren hugging her legs tightly as Torsha hugged her waist, Thom standing to the side watching the children. Aph looked to her children their silver circlets crowning their heads showing that they were Prince and Princess, their clothing gentle shades of blue and silver. Their eyes sparkled with joy and love. Slowly their gaze turning to Thom, they had heard their mother was seeing a new man but did not know what to expect. He was not dressed like the men of Shallow Moon; he was in heavy black leather armor and a cloak. He smiled gently as almost unsure of what to expect, Taren was the first to make a move. He let go of his mother and walked over to Thom, tilting his head he extended his hand to Thom. The pudgy little digits firm waiting for Thom to take is hand, the smile grew upon Thoms’ face as he took the little hand in his kneeling down to look the young prince in the eyes.
“Hello sir, I am Taren and it is my pleasure to meet you.” The six year old sounded so adult as he shook Thom’s hand.
Thom’s eyes met his as his face lit up. “The pleasure is all mine your Highness.”
Raising his eyes to look at Aph he could see a small tear forming on her cheek. Torsha released from her mother made her way to Thom as well, as she was taught she curtsied properly to Thom before embracing him in a hug. Thom balanced himself so they would not fall over. The crowd cheered leaping to their feet, there would be celebrating that night as the Queen returned to make an announcement and she brought a male companion. The people could only guess as to what that announcement would be, the Sergeant at Arms stood looking to Aph.
“Your Majesty if you and your guest are ready we will accompany you and the children to the castle where your room is ready. Shall I send a messenger ahead to prepare another room for your guest?” The lightly armored woman glanced to Thom.
“Thank you Shoana, but no, Lord Thom will be staying in my room with me. I would like to have the tailor sent to me; my guest will need appropriate garb to wear.” She smiled seeing the look on Shoana’s face.
“Yes ma’am it shall be done.” Shoana pointed to a young lass dressed in squires uniform, the lass took off at a run as they walked upon the brick road making their way through the town.
The town had stopped as they watched precession through the streets. They were used to frequent visits by the Queen to see her children but it had been some time since she had brought a stranger to their lands, with an announcement. Aph was wearing armor that they were not accustomed to. Normally she would have been dressed in her gossamer robes of royal blue, her hair loose and free in ringlets around her shoulder and a silver crown with the royal star of the land atop her head. The crowd watched in wonder as they made their way up the hill to the white castle built from the very stone it sat upon, it gleamed in the sunlight sparkling like a diamond amongst the emerald trees, with sapphire waters pouring down in splendor crashing against the rocks below. Shallow Moon was a rare gem in the world, never too hot and never cold. It rained once during the day, and then a gentle breeze would blow keeping the lands warm yet comfortable.
Soon they would be at the castle, and the big news would be announced through the land.
