Two nights ago...
"She misses her mother" Tucker had said to her while they stood over the bed of their oldest daughter, Aerinele. "She needs some time with you."
Rianna's heart lurched at his words, she knew he was right. She'd been so busy lately with the twins, her garden, the animals... she knew in her heart Aerinele no doubt felt neglected. Tucker had been wonderful at being there for her, and they had formed a special daddy-daughter bond that was as strong as it was precious. Now Rianna felt a little left out as well. Tucker pulled Rianna close and kissed her forehead as they watched their little girl sleep. "Let's go to bed" he whispered against her ear. Rianna nodded and leaned down to place a soft kiss on Nelly's forehead. Her head was already spinning with ideas on what to do with her daughter to make sure she felt just as bit as loved as she was.
Today..
Rianna wiggled her toes and admired the ruby red color that was adhered to them. Beside her, Aerinele did the same, only her toes were coated in a soft pink color that matched her rosy cheeks. They were enjoying a day in Britain, the "big city" as Aerinele called it. Her eyes were still wide with wonder and awe at all the buildings and people. She wanted to experience it all, so they had stopped and had lunch in a tavern, Nelly experiencing pizza for the first time. Rianna was sure she'd created a monster with that one. They had had pastries from a street vendor, got their nails painted at a natural dye shop, and afterwards they were heading to the hairstylist for new hairdos.
After making sure their toes were dry, Rianna took Aerinele across the cobblestone street to the hairstylist. She was only going to have a trim, but Nelly insisted she get a whole new style. So, after a terrifying hour of having her hair pulled, stretched, braided, and twisted, Rianna looked into the large wall mirror and her jaw dropped.
She was wearing buns. They were braided on either side of her head, and there were hundreds of tiny flowers weaved through them. Not sure whether to laugh or cry, she turned to see Aerinele's reaction. One look into her bright eyes and wide smile melted Rianna's heart, and she returned her daughter's smile. "Thank you, Nelly, it's beautiful."
Nelly beamed, throwing her small arms around Rianna's neck and hugging her. "Mine's is gonna match!" she exclaimed, as Rianna lifted her up. She vacated the seat and set her little girl down. "Make it match" she grinned to the hairstylist.
Afterwards, the two newly done up ladies walked the quieter streets of Britain. Hand-in-hand they strolled, looking in windows of the finer boutiques and stopping at more than a couple florists. Soon, Rianna's arms were stuffed full of bags and boxes of the day's treasures.
As the sun started to dip into the horizon and the sky turned from bright blue to a dusky indigo, they began their journey back home. Tucker was waiting in the study, the twins both in his lap, cradled in his arms. He grinned widely as they entered and an excited, yet sleepy little girl showed off her new clothes and hairstyle, and her painted nails. Rianna set her bags down and took Leilani from Tucker. He stood and together they took their three children to their bedroom to tuck in for the night.
Later that evening, alone in their room, Tucker counted the flowers in Rianna's hair as she nuzzled against him. "It looks like you two had a good day" he said softly as he kissed her neck. "Your hair smells good" he teased, knowing she wasn't completely thrilled with the new style.
Rianna grinned and turned to him. "Next time, you can take her out and have your hair done.. with bows and flowers and the works!"
Pulling her tight, he held her close to him and kissed her nose. "Only if I get my toes painted, too" he teased.
