The sun was warm and bright bathing her skin in a soft glow, her delicate yet strong hands picking the necessary and very much needed herbs. In the recent days she had to do more healing for those she called friend. The air was warm and inviting in the Druid Grove that was untainted by the blood of the innocent. Eithne had told Aph of this place, every year on the spring solstice Eithne brought gifts to the Grove.
Sitting back on her heals looking around she had though of the events that had led up to this. Tac’s report of Calli fleeing from the tavern that Pandora ran, her joining in the hunt for the man that had upset Calli, Calli’s disappearance when she was needed as a witness, the removal of the casts from the man who frightened Calli. Now attack after attack on the Guardians, taking them down one by one and injuring them greatly, he even injured their new healer.
Thom had asked Aph to stay away for her own safety and she made a promise, but she also asked her sister to help keep an eye out. Tac had several places she went daily folded into those shadows she held dear. That was how Esidor was found bleeding and near death in the Galehaven Tavern. Her thoughts turned to Thom, her heart ached for all that he was going through, the pain of his people getting hurt had to be maddening. She remembered how it was when she led her own house during the Yew Wars. Perhaps she would mix him a special blended tea to help sooth him at night so he could sleep and relax.
Right now though she wanted this Mathias captured and to even re-break his fingers. How dare he hurt her friends after she had checked his wounds. Normally she would not be this violent and unforgiving, but he had drawn the line in the sand and now they all had to stick together. Maybe she would speak to Laur about a way the Guardians could hunt the man down. She had a whole list of ideas, though Laur was a formidable warrior and had already had the same thoughts.
Snapping of twigs behind her made her jump and grab for the dagger strapped to her thigh. A baby dear had made its way into the Grove and was nibbling on the foliage, the white dots along its back were fading, and soon this young prince would be entering its juvenile years. As she watched the fawn eat she saw all the fresh flowers in bloom and a thought crossed her mind, she would make floral head garlands for the women of Oly maybe get them to smile, and ivy ones for the men to get the women to giggle. Her mind was snapped back as the fawn had noticed her and was now bounding away, she hoped no one would hurt the deer. Life was too precious as it was and that was a young life too young to be taken away.
Standing she gathered a few flowers along with the remaining herbs and smiled. Both were needed and she would make used of them once she got home. Walking out of the Grove she shut the gate behind her, her private sanctuary was once again protected from the outside world. Sanctuary.
