It was with bitter sweet emotion that I was escorted from what had become my home. The last seven years have shown me more adventure than I had ever hoped to dream. Now this chapter in my meanderings is closing, only time will reveal the true future.
I was barely a woman when I stumbled across the raven haired beauty I call Captain. A simple tourist in a land foreign and harsh had little chance against wild and cutthroat hoodlums of the dusty streets. The way she fought the attackers was, to say the least, impressive. Her scowl and invitation to follow left little room to argue.
Horribly unaccustomed to life at sea I took a much shorter time than expected to gain “sea legs”. I quickly learned the ropes and what they did, or did not do as well as which to avoid or be wary. I have always been a bit “too proper” but even at sea some civility is in order. I believe I taught as much of this to the Captain as she taught me to be a hardened sailor.
There was a great deal more I learned aboard the Saucy Vixen, but that is a tale for another day. The devastating wave that brought me to this port of call almost wiped away the entire crew. Out of no where a terrific wave thundered and growled from the depths of the ocean to sweep under us and toss us about as a child’s toy. The main mast was split in two like kindling and the splintering remnants became projectiles, one of which pinned me to the deck impaled and helpless to move yet still alive.
The look on the face of Capt’n told me I was dead, then her expression changed from concern to irritated relief. The hands that assisted me were of a strange man, which is unusual aboard a ship crewed by women. His speech was nothing more than mumbles to me as I drifted in and out of the dreaming. The scream that tore me from my slumber I realized was my own, but I was free!
Now somewhat recovered it is the new adventure of finding an occupation that fits within my skill set. Not as easy as one may believe given the talents I acquired were more for profiteering and opportunistic troublemaking. Yet fortune smiled on me when I discovered an add for a tavern maid. The lord and lady of the manor required services of one gifted in all the areas of my own expertise.
Shadow Moore Tavern was to become my new home.
