They were dark times. Human fought human, brother against brother, father against son. Mass hatred spread throughout the land, the blood flowing endlessly, crowding the River Styx with the fallen. The Unforgiven Ones, the men who massacred without remorse, the ones filled with hatred, the evil consumming them so completely that they were beyond saving, were butchering anyone who crossed their paths.
If they were felled, they simply rose again. Stronger each time, less human-looking each time; for the monster within had taken control and had cast out any resemblence of the men they once were. Nothing could stop them.
So they killed, they died, and they rose again. They slaughtered. Annihilated. For thousands of years the destruction continued. Darkness spread throughout the land. The light could no longer penetrate the barrier. The end of mankind was near. Humans died, elves perished; the magical and mystical beings disappeared rapidly, their glamour unable to thrive without hope, without dreamers. And dreamers were extinct. Hope was extinct.

In the Kingdom of Light, three sisters played. Their innocent giggling echoing off the clouds that surrounded their home.
The oldest, Merianna, was leaping from one cloud to the next, diving through them. Her hair was damp from the moisture, her irridescent skin glistened with the rays of the sun, and her wings, threaded with silver, shimmered in the light. Drusilla and Haidee, the middle and youngest children, were giggling and clapping as they watched Merianna perform her aerial acrobatic show. It was like this every day.
All three sisters shared the same irridescent skin and silver threaded wings, but that was where their resemblence stopped. Merianna had long copper-colored hair that curled in waves down her shoulders and back, with eyes that shone like emeralds. Haidee's hair was a deep ebony color, straight and glossy, with blue eyes that took their color directly from the sky. Drusilla had shimmering white hair that reflected colors, it cascaded down her back like a colorful waterfall, her eyes matched, marbled orbs that reflected the glow of the sun.
Beautiful angels were they, born in the heavens to angel parents, never exposed to anything but truth, innocence, and goodness. The darkness that existed below unknown to them. Life was paradise, and they knew nothing otherwise.

The evil that had overcome mankind flourished for many millenia. The Great Deity looked upon his children from the heavens and weeped. His tears flooded the rivers and oceans, and wiped out those he had created out of love. He mercifully purged the land of his creations. They could not overcome the evils that had plagued them, and it was time to start anew. First, though, the evil would need to be captured and secured.
Angels and Seraphim were sent from the Kingdom of Light to capture these evils. Each was given a sacred box to capture an evil and return it to hell. The great warrior goddess Bellora would keep a master box, and all of the evils would be locked inside. The master box was made using the bones of fallen gods and goddesses who had perished in the fight against evil.
Drusilla, Merianna, and Haidee all volunteered for this important mission, but were denied their assistance. They were now seraphim, the highest order of angels and spoke the word of the Great Deity. Their voices sang of truth, and with only a word, evil would cower at their feet, wracked with the pain of pure goodness.
But the Great Deity had other plans for them, and they were told to stay behind and assist the angels returning with their boxes.
The caged demons weren't going to go without a fight. They attacked the angels, they tempted them with sin, anything to keep free from the captivity of the box. They tried to turn the angels against each other, but they were all true to their Deity. None should fall victim to the evil that had once plagued the land. It would be stopped.
Except for three girls who had been tempted by Curiosity.
Curiosity, being neither good nor evil, flourished. It seeped into the minds of the sisters and tempted them. Once their minds were open, the demons that had corrupted the Unforgiven Ones leapt. Merianna was the first to question the reasoning behind locking all of the evils with no ways of escape. "Without evil, would there be 'good'?" she'd ask. They began to question the other angels methods of securing the demons. Then they began to question each other. And the Great Deity.
They tricked Bellora into letting them look into the box. This was forbidden. Some of the demons escaped and hid. These three Seraphim, the highest order of angels, those that others would strive to be like... had turned their backs on the Great Deity and had plagued mankind with evil once more.
Punishment was dealt. The angels fell. The Great Deity, however, knowing that angels who were sentenced to fall would be tortured in hell, gave each of the sisters a choice. Perish in hell where they, as keepers of good and truth would be eternally tortured, or accept the responsibility of hosting one of the evils that remained captured.
No thought was given as each sister chose to hold an evil within. As each accepted their box, their wings were torn from them by their peers. The veil of truth was stripped from them, their connection to the Great Deity was severed.
Merianna, the eldest, was given Defiance. Any order she would be given, she would do the opposite, whether she wanted to or not. If ordered to dress, she would disrobe. If asked to drink she would suffer thirst.
Haidee was given Theft. She had to steal anything she were to consume. If something was given to her and she ate it, she would vomit. When thirsty, she could not simply take a drink offered, or it would burn her throat. Anything she wanted, she would have to take without permission. This would be her way of life.
Drusilla, who had denied the allegations brought forth against them, was given Lies. She could not utter a single truth without it causing immense, crippling pain. Pain that would bring a warrior to his knees.
The sisters were bound to their demons, and they scattered as they fell. In their punishment, they were alone, hosting the evil they once rid the land of. The evils that had been purged were now set free again, to begin the cycle once more.
