I know we have a bunch of Tolkein nuts in the community. Is anyone seeing it in theaters tomorrow? It was my favorite novel as a boy and I remember having an English teacher nice enough to assign it to us in fifth grade. Needless to say, I'm pretty stoked to see how the film is. Does JRRT inform your RP? I remember when Fellowship came out the nazgul gave us all kinds of ideas in The Undead: Minions of the Well. Also, there is a Latin version available now, so linguists rejoice! In foramine terrae habitabat hobbitus! www.amazon.co.uk/Hobbitus-Ille-The-Latin-Hobbit/dp/0007445210/

I can't not say that Tolkein affects my roleplay. Especially because I've played orcs, undead, etc.
I do like the way orcs have grown since their creation, becoming less "evil" and more "henchman" in a great many stories.
Other things that the Hobbit and LoTR have given me: Thieves are not always evil. The little guy can be the hero. Elves are all pompous know-it-alls (a common character trait in most of my characters... even the elf!) The journey can be more fun than the destination (i.e. Balrogs and the Mines of Moria were more tense than tossing a ring into a molten rock river for me).

It was a great movie, just saw it tonight, and looking forward to the next two.
And can't say it influenced my RP style/ideas a lot, I was mostly an Anime kinda kid so they where usually the ones giving me the mojo behind those gosh darn outlandish characters I love to play so much.
