Hello everyone, had a quick question How many people in the community also play D&D?
I just bought the box set and me and a few friends are thinking of starting to play around with it when summer starts.
Thankfully Alyssia has already diverted me from pitfall (Starting out my first Chr as a Psion) So I am now thinking of Maybe a Warlock Race probably those horned half-demons.
Anyways whats your thoughts of characters/Classes?
((Also I remember in 3.5 there was a class that just used True Names as a power that still around?))

The D&D I played was a much simpler game than it turned into. Back when I started, there wasn't even an "a" in front of DnD.
I've always been partial to rogue or bard classes, myself. Even then, I avoided magic like the plague. It wasn't because I didn't like the skill, but because there was too many handicaps. I mean, what good is a character who can cast one magic missile per day and the rest of the day is about as useful as a wet sock?
But my advice is this... Play the character that is right for you, whatever it may be.

I have a tone of the books for 3.5 in one of those wheel bags, I always went ranger or cleric purely for the heals, once I went a special class that duel wielded with finess I forget what the class was but I added dmg from my 18 str and 24 dex and basically attacked 4 times at lvl 5, it was fairly op except the swords were a 1d8 and 1d6.
When ever I played a sorcerer (or anything like it) things went bad pretty quickly <_< Prestidigitation is really OP.

I started with 2nd edition, 3.5 made it fun for me (less math). I always play a rogue or sorcerer, usually elf or human. The unique races have lvl restrictions or hold backs that make them complicated so I've avoided them.
Once I get my books, character sheets and dice back from "he who should drop off the face of the earth", I hope to be able to game again.

Yeah stay away from 4th edition. 3.5 is still the way to go.
Keep your first character simple. Seriously hon, I know it's really tempting to play some crazy raced / classed character on your first run but it'll just make things more confusing unless you have a really experienced DM.
Other than that...have fun! *grins* Since I'm no longer home, I miss our saturday night D&D game. I'm actually thinking of starting one for the folks here just to keep doing it.

Lol, so the TS3 server I use when I play League of Legends on has a campaign of Pathfinder (basically watered down D&D 3.5), that's I've joined in on building it up and will start on Friday, I've made a Human Evoker Wizard mostly because I wanted Tenser's Flying Disc and other purely utility spells that have no use in combat while being able to do dmg, my goal is to be the craziest character in the campaign as I'm the least power gamed. <_< So much chaos to be sowed! Oh and there is a thing online that allows to to share a visual playing field and have computer generated Dice with simple commands of how many dice and how many sides ie (3d6). It's called www.infrno.net/ it's free and you could set it up to play if you wanted.

Thanks for everyone's reply Sadly I have made the argument for 3.5 to the group, my main point being it is well more flushed out and has more options/goodies with it But for some reason the GM and the rest have a hard-on for 4.0 so I am at a loss. And The GM had your same thoughts Aly; while he is real experienced he has asked us to limit ourselves to only content found in Play Book 1 (4edition) We haven't started yet (hopefully first of May) but from what I hear this will be out first party 1- GM ------- 1- Dragonborn Warrior (random guy) 1- Tiefling Thief (my cuz) 1- Human Wizard (good friend) 1- Tiefling Warlock (myself) 1- Dwarf Cleric Not to sure if this is a good number for a party or good mixture of characters I am thinking my role will just be standing to the side and blasting shit with pure energy, so might be fun We are going to play this game quickly ((the GM said going to let us lvl up real fast)) and then either try another 4edtion game with the expanded content, or maybe try going to 3.5

Using pathfinder books it's basically watered down D&D also what's your summoner name and elo? Maybe I've seen you and if you want we could play a few games.

elo is ranked rating, you don't really have one if you don't play ranked unranked is officially marked at 1200 unless you sucked or were really good in season one. I'll send you a friend invite if you don't receive it it's not your summoner name haha, mine is Rotip though if you want to add me.
As for anyone else reading this, if you're interested in League of Legends its basically a 5v5 PvP capture the flag and it's free no strings attached and it's worth checking out.
