So UO has become basically pay for content and pay subscription fee, not worth it, should have become free to play if there going to do this stuff.

Wow...just...wow...
This is a dumb move. For all our sakes, let's hope it doesn't spell the final death of UO. *sighs*
If they don't make it FtP after this...ugh...
Edit: Then again, other than the RP communities...the rest of the game is filled with people more than happy to give up real money for things like gold and what not. Why not spend it on this shit? Who knows...

We've all paid for less from EA in the past, I really don't see what the big deal is for these items.

We've all paid for less from EA in the past, I really don't see what the big deal is for these items. Well not everyone has. We pay for our subs, that's about it. I don't usually even buy the expansions. I still don't even have the gargoyle one. *chuckles* Personally I see no reason to buy any of it as I only play UO for the sake of RP anymore. I don't see why I have to dish out money to buy mostly useless fluff when I tend to log on for a couple hours every few days, RP, then log out. As far as other games go...I know EA owns a lot. And I'm very fond of Bioware games. But once again, I tend not to spend money I don't have to. DLC content is something I rarely if ever buy. If I need it, I get it. Hell, I don't even spend money on other games anymore... I play LoTRO. I have a lifetime sub. I didn't buy the sub, it was a gift from a friend. (I'm a founder though and used to pay a sub fee but that was the only online game I play other than UO). Full expansions are one thing but having DLC that people have to dish out even a few bucks for tends to alienate a large group of players. It's one thing if the sub is free I guess. But when you have to still pay a sub fee for a game that's so dated and then pay again to have content that in the past was free... That's where it bothers me.... And yes, Rameses. I also miss the days of cooking ribs over the fire. And actually having to hunt for resources. Etc. There's just no reason to actually PLAY the game part of UO anymore for me. I haven't in years. I'm just jaded I guess =p *shrugs*

I know I didn't play like way, way back in the day, but I remember helping gather resources nonetheless. I would prefer they make up their minds on paid subs vs microtransactions, and honestly I think they'd make a little more to just do microtransactions...but they really need to update the uogamecodes store. Having everything in one long list is a little annoying.

Pfft I've never bought anything from gamecodes worst I've done was buy the expansions and HS booster.
HS booster has been the most worthless to me as ships can't be used on catskills because the tiny RP community.
I'm not doing mini transactions to be able to grind one more awful PoS.

If the game went FTP as Lotro did, I would have no issue in picking a few transactions from a menu of possible booster packs. High Seas, though not being phat with content, did have the ships and the new sea port. Unfortunately, for many a sea going free-booter, it was just too little too late.
Stygian Abyss, for me, was a waste of funds. I do not wish to play a creature that looks little more then like a huge dragon fly, and the new area does not all all appeal to me. First off, in the main city, as in the Heartwood for elves, all they did was put in more npcs saying to us to, "come closer, and I will tell you how to earn some gold." This was really creepy in Heartwood seeing that many of the elves spawned in their kacks at first.
I was equally uninterested in the expansions that brought us such goodies as ninjas and samurai.
Real, meaningful content would for me be a lot better then the devs sitting in a room and one suddenly saying; "UO needs more tigers."
I think for many of us it is the love of the world of Sosaria, the friends we have made, and the hope for a better tomorrow, that keeps us here. Or perhaps we are simply sitting at the bedside of a terminal friend.

Now I wonder why Sosaria has no turtles....

High Seas - I've used some part of the expansion at least everyday I play since I've been trying to create a harbor.
Stygian Abyss - I think this is utter crap. I can't think of a single feature that I use. I wish I had never paid for it.
kingdom reborn - This expansion pissed me off so much. Like just when I thought UO had given up on changing the client the players know and love they gave us this.
Mondain's Legacy - I like the elves. The amror is ok though I'm a little confused as to in what way does elven armor not fit humans? Do humans have tails or wings or an extra set of arms? And yes Heartwood absolutly rapes my senses.
Samurai Empire - I thought this was ok. The new skills made warriors worth it again. My only complaint is that I wish they would have dropped the islands within the same waters as the rest of sosoria. I'm sick of having to go through gates to get to a new land.
Age of Shadows - Customizable houses are awesome. Probably the only reason other than RP that I still play. Also I like how they made the combat system a mathmetical equation.
blackthorne's revenge - I was pretty sure it was just a repackaging of th previous expansion.
UO Third Dawn - Totally worthless. This was when I first realized that UO might not have my best intrests in mind.
Renisiance - They promised a new land that would double to size of housing space. Everyone expected just that a new land. WHat we got was evidence that the devs just ht ctrl+c and ctrl+n and finally the tricky part ctrl+V. and everyone collectivly said WTF?
second age - it was the first expasion to an MMO so I had no idea what to expect. I'm still wondering why they didnt make these lands accessable via moongate like they have for everything else.
original release/beta - it was awesome. but as soon as i played on a no OSI shard i realized all UO could be but never would be. Thus every expansion I get my hopes up and they get absolutly squashed.

As far as expansions go I disagree Third dawn after years later I see as one of the best expansions, it's held up amazingly well because of it's unique features meaning no housing and at one point no transportation magic although they changed that to let you recall out.
I technically started at the beginning of Renaissance which was a fix to the mass PvP problems that people claimed, although being PK'ed back in the day most of the Red were friendlier than the blues especially the bank sitting blues who were dicks.
Age of shadows started a slippery slope I liked the old weapons system, if you remember AoS came with insurance because they knew everything was going to get obscenely powerful and if you wanted to complete you'd have to deal with runics and if you lost something you spent a weeks worth of hours getting you'd most like rage quit the game.

Last expansion I got was Mondain's legacy I think. *chuckles* I'm not sure. Whichever expansion came with the black walls for the houses. (And honestly I didn't buy it. A friend got sick of me not buying expansions and just bought it for me. *grins* That's what usually ends up happening...)
It's kinda sad. When UO first came out I played constantly. In fact, I failed an entire semester of college because I just didn't go to class. *snickers* That was a bitch to make up.
It's been four years at the very LEAST since I've hunted in UO. (I honestly can't remember) I just have absolutely no need to do it. I've been on ONE champ spawn since they came out. If I need something, I just buy it.
I really am glad that a lot of the community can still find enjoyment in the actual game part of UO. I just...can't. I wish I could...
*grins a bit* When High Seas came out I had to laugh. Aly hates boats. In fact, she's scared of boats. Terrified even. She deals better with it now but ...yeah. So I said "Well, there's another expansion I won't need!"
....if someone throws her on a boat she tends to scramble to the mast and cling to it, refusing to move or open her eyes. The Rangers used to have to knock her out... She got punched in the head a lot out of nowhere and woke up on the Stolen Heart only to beat the shit out of Ruden the minute she hit land. *grins*
I dunno...maybe one day I'll buy them all in one swoop.
Then again, I hear "Swooping is bad." (Ok, terrible DA joke...)
